Dear Readers of Living Fossils,
First of all, thank you for coming along with us on this journey. We appreciate your interest in our work and we hope you continue to enjoy it.
We have tried to keep the administrative aspect of the site to a minimum. This is the first announcement post, and we don’t expect to have many more. We are writing for a few reasons.
First, like so many creators, we are proud of the growth of our readership. Our posts now attract thousands of views and we have crossed into four digits of subscribers.
Second, we have introduced a new section, which we’re calling “The Boneyard.” We created this section because there are some things that we want to say that, we suspect, are not of interest to all of our subscribers. For example, we might want to make a point that is relevant to a discussion in the scholarly literature, which will be more narrowly of interest. Another reason we might bury a piece in the Boneyard is if the tone does not fit with the voice that we strive for on the site more broadly. That is, these pieces might be a little snarky and they will not go through our usual editorial process. Note that pieces will appear in the Boneyard without announcement, but we will link to them in our regular Fossils work from time to time.
Third, we have been asked to host guest pieces. For the moment, our policy on this is to be open to such requests and will run with an article when the piece is relevant to the purpose of the site and of high quality. Please feel free to share feedback on this policy if you have any.
Finally, we are not planning to turn on paid subscriptions any time soon. For the moment, we are pleased to share our thoughts with our readers, who we hope are getting something from them. In return, we simply ask, as all content creators do, that you share our work with your own networks if and when you think people would benefit from reading our ideas.
Thank you again for digging the Living Fossils. If you have ideas you want us to discuss or feedback you want to share, please feel free to contact us.
Best,
The Living Fossils, Rob, Josh, and Shani
Will you make the Boneyard a subscription-based format so those who wish to subscribe may?
