Who are we?

The PURPOSE of The Living Fossils is to communicate how the application of evolutionary ideas can help explain the sources of psychological suffering and well-being, in the service of improving our understanding of mental health. Thus far, most attempts at this vital question—including those of mainstream clinical psychology—have neglected this perspective. In contrast, our starting point is that the human mind (along with the rest of the human body) evolved via the same process as every other earth-bound organism: by natural selection. In discussing what this means, we hope to illuminate rather than judge, to normalize, rather than stigmatize.
